March Tasting

The evening started with a Cava reception in what we all knew as the ‘Champagne Bar’ of the Restaurant Abiss, which is now called Dorée. This bar has a really great setting overlooking Calpe Bay and the Peñón de Ifach.   I hosted the tasting and welcomed the 47 members and then introduced the evening’s wine selector, one of our members, Keith Pacey, who was introducing the Wines of Aragon for the evening’s tasting.   The land locked autonomous region of Aragon which geographically is situated in the North East of Spain..   The climate is continental very cold winters and hot summers. In wine terms Aragon has 4 D O’s, Somontano, Calatayud, Carinena and Campo De Borja plus a Vino De La Tierra.  A more detailed report on the tasting can be found on the web site under Tastings – Recent Tastings or by clicking on March Tasting.  The cost of each wine, where it can be purchased and average score given by members is shown in the list of wines tasted in 2018, which can be found by clicking on Wines Tasted in 2018.

April Tasting

The April Tasting is at Ca La Iaia, Moraira on the 19th April at 19.30 hours.   The wines to be tasted will come from La casa agrícola de Pepé Mendoza from D.O. Alicante. Many of us know Pepé, who is the son of Enrique, and his general manager. The Pepe Mendoza label is new. There are (I think) just 4 wines currently, so that fits José’s recent modus.

Please remember that the booking deadline is now the FRIDAY before the tasting.  If you have to cancel after the deadline you will still have to pay! Reservations and choice of main course please to: Penny Floodgate Tel: 965794996 or email pennyfloodgate@gmail.com.   Reservations must be received no later than the deadline 12.00 noon on Friday 13th April. Penny will always confirm receipt of your booking.  If you have made a reservation and do not receive a confirmation from Penny you are not booked, so in that case please check with her.
