Firstly, those of you who did not attend the January tasting a Very Happy New Year and hope you will enjoy our tastings this year. Secondly welcome to my first Newsletter of the year.
On the 18th January, following the AGM at Restaurante La Senia, Denia 64 members tasted my choice of 5 wines for our first tasting of the year. I chose to present 5 wines from 2 bodegas in Mallorca one of which the Society had visited on its Wine Trip to Mallorca in 2012; Bodegas Ribas located in the village of Consell, which has been making wine for over 300 years. A high percentage of the Mallorcan grape varieties Manto Negro and Prensal are grown here in accordance with the family tradition. The second Bodega was Bodegas 4 Kilos Vinícola. 4 Kilos does not have its own vineyard, but buys the grapes from local growers. Wine expert Francisco Grimalt participates and supervises each step of production, thus determining the quality of the product. He has been described as the hippie winemaker with a soul. Wine Trip 2018
Due to a cancellation there are two vacancies on the 2018 Wine Trip which will be to the DO’s of Toro and Rueda from Monday April 30th until Friday May 4th. Anyone who is interested in going should contact Sandy Fawle at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The next tasting which is on February 15th will be held at the Swiss Hotel in Moraira, which is a new venue for the Society. Entrance into the hotel is via the Garden entrance, which will be where the wine presentation will be, not the main entrance to the hotel. Guests are very welcome.
The hotel is offering a 10% discount on the rooms for an overnight stay.
Please remember that the booking deadline is now the FRIDAY before the tasting. If you have to cancel after the deadline you will still have to pay! Reservations must be received no later than the deadline 12.00 noon on Friday 9th February. Penny will always confirm receipt of your booking. If you have made a reservation and do not receive a confirmation from Penny you are not booked, so in that case please check with her.
