61 members and guests assembled at the Swiss Hotel in Moraira, a new venue for the society. I introduced the presenter, David Lopez from Bodega Aljibes who is their National Sales Manager. As he spoke only Spanish, Tim Fawle undertook the translation. David informed us that very generously we were going to taste six of their wines: one White one Rosado and four Reds. The society had visited the bodega on their Autumn trip in 2017, but while those on the trip had tasted several of the wines, they were of different years to the ones we tasted during the evening. The cost of each wine, where it can be purchased and average score given by members is shown in the list of wines tasted in 2018, which can be found by clicking on Wines Tasted in 2018.
Tasting at La Parilla del Celler
Francis and Pepe will be having a wine tasting at La Parilla del Celler, located in old town Jávea, on Thursday 8th March. They will be offering wines from Bodegas Montalvo Wilmot which is from Ciudad Real and has a boutique production of approx 400,000 bottles per annum. The wine is produced from Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Verdejo. The grapes are not pressed as they use only gravity techniques to make their famous “free run wines”. The tastings will be 13.00 to 15.00 with tapas 25 Euros and 20.00 to 22.00 with tapas at 30 Euros. As you know, they have limited space so please book early. Francis and Pepe both look forward to seeing you.
The March tasting will be held at the Restaurant Abiss in Calpe on 15th March. This is a members only tasting. As this is a very popular venue, members are asked to book promptly. Numbers are limited to 60 and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The tasting will be the Wines of Aragon conducted by Keith Pacey.
The hotel Sol y Mar is offering a 20% discount on the rooms for an overnight stay. Booking on line, the code is CBWSMARCH all upper case, no spaces.
Please remember that the booking deadline is now the FRIDAY before the tasting. If you have to cancel after the deadline you will still have to pay! Reservations must be received no later than the deadline 12.00 noon on Friday 9th March. Penny will always confirm receipt of your booking. If you have made a reservation and do not receive a confirmation from Penny you are not booked, so in that case please check with her.
