Tasting at Ca La Iaia – 20th November 2014 – Moraira

Ca La Ia Iaia is one of our regular, popular venues.   The restaurant always produces an excellent meal and this occasion was no exception, when 64 members and guests enjoyed the cuisine overseen by Luis-Miguel.   The wines are also always good and this time we enjoyed the produce of Bodega Vegalfaro, each wine being tailored to each course.   The presenter of the wines was Rodolfo Valiente the Manager and owner of the family run bodega.

Bodega Vegalfaro is a 68 hectare estate located in the DO of Utiel Requena, well known for its use of the Bobal grape and in this, Bodega Vegalfaro is no exception.   The bodega exports 85% of their wines.

Wine Trip 2015

The wine trip 2015 will take place from 4th– 8th May to DO Ribeira-Sacra in Galicia.   The trip is now fully booked and a waiting list has been established.   For details of the trip see the Society’s web page.

December Meeting

The December meeting will be our Christmas function for which dress is dinner jackets or dark lounge suits, with the ladies appropriately glamorously attired.   It takes place on the 11th December at the Jávea Parador.   Note this is the second Thursday of the month.

Reservations no later than the deadline 12.00 noon on Monday 8th December, cancellations and no shows after the deadline are liable for payment. Penny will always confirm your booking. If you do not receive confirmation from Penny then you are not booked in.

THE DOORS WILL OPEN AT 19.30.  This will allow the committee to arrange seating and tables.

As this is the Christmas Meeting, I will be choosing some special wines  and of course we will be  presenting  our Wine Tasters Of the Year Awards.

Amongst the wines that you will be enjoying with this sumptuous meal will be :-

Seminare Diosesis de Ourense, a delicious White wine from the Galician Region which combines the best of the Albariño, Godello and Treixadura grapes in a superbly  expressive cepage.

Muga Rosado 2013 from Rioja’s premier bodega. They have worked their customary magic with this delightful blend of Garnacha, Viura and just a touch of Tempranillo for which Peñin has awarded 90 points, most unusual for a rosado wine!

Marques de Valdueza 2009. We tasted another of the wines from this Extramadura bodega in a February tasting and you marked it highly then. Well this is a step up in category and I think you will enjoy the rich and velvety flavours of this superb wine.

Pago de Balancines Mata Negra 2009, another Extramadura wine from this rapidly improving region, which is a real favourite of ours. This  outstanding blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Garnacha Tintorera  has really caught the critics’ eye and it has achieved a monstrous 94 Peñin points. Although a little expensive, we think that you deserve a taste of this nectar and it is Christmas after all.!!!

For those who wish to stay overnight, we have a discounted rate for the society of 90 Euros Bed and Breakfast.

I am really looking forward to seeing those able to attend this last tasting of the year (no marking required …. just enjoy the wines !!) and to those unable to come may I wish you a happy and healthy festive season over the Christmas break.
