Dear Members,

Firstly, a Happy, Healthy New year to everyone!

This is my first communication of the year as your President and I look forward to a fun year enjoying some interesting wines with you.


Our AGM  took place on January 16 at the Hotel Sol y Mar Calpe followed by a tasting in the Abiss Restaurant next door.

Thank you to those of you who could attend the AGM, it is always an important event when we reflect on the past year, learn from our experiences and plan for this current year with the aim of producing interesting tastings in a fun environment.


I would like to thank Paul Smithard, Sue Blewett, Mike Granville and John Sloggie who joined me in presenting their choice of wine for our tasting. A full report is now available on the website so please click here.

We have developed a varied programme involving more outside speakers covering a variety of subjects. Please make a note of these dates and support us by attending as many events as you can. One of the subjects we discussed at the AGM was how we can improve communication amongst members. We would like to set up a closed group on Facebook where members can share wine related subjects and experiences. If you would like to be part of this group please contact


Next Tasting – The role of the Sommellier in a Michelin Star Restaurant

February 20, Restaurante La Senia, Denia

This a first for CBWS and we have secured the collaboration of Enrique the Sommellier from Restaurante Bon Amb in Javea to take us through what his job involves together with tasting some interesting wines that he has chosen. We are also hoping that the General Manager, Michel, will also attend.

The menu is:

Taco Valenciano con pico de gallo

Lingote de cochinillo con salsa valenciana y crujiente ibérico

Main Course to Choose:

Paletillo de cordero

Salmon con crema chrivia

Please remember the change to the Member and Guest Booking System where we hope to make it easier when members are inviting guests.

If you are bringing guests Penny will confirm guest places 2 weeks prior to the tasting. So, for the February tasting, guest places will be confirmed after 12 noon on Friday 7th February. Any bookings taken after this (for members and guests) will be subject to availability. Bookings will close as usual the Friday before the tasting which, for this month, is 12.00 noon on FRIDAY 14th February 

Any cancellations after the deadline will still require payment to be made for you and/or your guests.   Reservations and choice of main course please to: Penny Floodgate Tel: 965794996 or email:  Penny will always confirm receipt of your booking.  If you have made a reservation and do not receive a confirmation from Penny you are not booked, so in that case please check with her.
