Newsletter May 2020

Dear All,
I hope you are well and managing the Lockdown wherever you are.
It seems a long time ago that some of us were together at our last tasting in  February! When you reflect back on what has happened since then it is unbelievable  and unreal,  however here we are at the beginning of May looking forward to the summer and some nice wines and of course an improvement in our safety and quality of life.
This week was to be our Wine Trip to Mallorca followed by an interesting programme of tastings through to the Autumn.
Nevertheless everyone is adapting well to the changing circumstances and if someone was to tell you that from March 14 in Spain we would be confined to our homes for 49 days you would not believe it!
Meanwhile life goes on and in the Wine Society we have enjoyed 3 Online Wine Tastings which have been managed by Neville Richardson and myself. Those of you who have participated have remarked on how informative these have been and we have gained new insights from Neville into identifying the characteristics of each  grape.  Many thanks to Neville who has walked us through these tastings. At the same time we enjoyed having a catch up with everyone which is humorous and good fun!
We plan to continue with these with our next tasting scheduled for Wednesday May 13 at 19.00h Spanish time.
We are using the Zoom conferencing which is very user friendly and I do urge you to participante so if you are interested please mail me try it, you will enjoy it! I will mail previous participants independently.
It is of course difficult to determine the outcome of getting together this year as events are continually changing but positively things are beginning to improve.
Looking at future tastings we have postponed these through until at least October and maybe longer but you will be informed in due course as the situation hopefully improves.
Finally please see  some interesting articles firstly on the success of Albariño in the UK
Also some research showing some health benefits of drinking wine!
Warmest Regards and stay safe.
