Welcome to our October Newsletter where you will find detailed below our next Wine Tasting.

A total of 48 people attended a delightful “Welcome Back” event in September in the beautiful setting of Puerto Blanco where members enjoyed an informal get-together with wines selected from previous Wine Trips. By using the usual format of seating i.e numbers out of the hat, members were able to re-connect with each other after such a long time without a physical CBWS wine tasting.

The wines we tasted were:

Viñas del Vero Chardonnay and Gewurtztraminer, DO Somontano

Care Rosado, DO Cariñena

El Regajal, DO Vinos de Madrid

Sio, DO Binissalem Mallorca

To comply with the current restrictions a welcome cava/white wine was served at each table.  My thanks to everyone for respecting the Covid rules with masks and seating. Photos of the event can be seen on the website by clicking here.


We are looking forward to our next Wine Tasting which will take place at the MR Hotel, Les Rotes, Denia on Thursday October 21, at 7.30 pm.  This will be a very interesting tasting of a selection of wines chosen by John Davies, a wine importer from London who has presented to us on several previous occasions. Unfortunately John is unable to attend the tasting due to a family illness so the presentation of these wines will be shared amongst ourselves.

John has chosen as his theme, Bordeaux blends made in Spain, using the classic Bordeaux grape varieties in both white and red wines.

We will be using a new Wine Assessment form at this tasting which will enable members to assess the qualities of each wine in a more structured way.  Neville Richardson will guide everyone through this new process.

For those new members who have not attended a tasting at MR Hotel, this is a delightful setting where the reception drink will be served on the patio and the tasting in a spacious dining area, exclusive to us.  Any members wishing to stay overnight at the Hotel can enjoy a special 15% discount for Wine Society members and this should be reserved directly with the Hotel mentioning you are attending a CBWS wine tasting.

We hope to see as many of you as possible at this second in-person event as this is a great location for us to enjoy the wines and company of fellow members.

If you are bringing guests Penny will confirm guest places prior to the tasting as members have priority. Bookings will close as usual the Friday before the tasting which, for this month, is 12.00 noon on FRIDAY 16th October.

Any cancellations after the deadline will still require payment to be made for you and/or your guests.   Reservations and choice of main course please to: Penny Floodgate Tel: 965794996 or email:  Penny will always confirm receipt of your booking.  If you have made a reservation and do not receive a confirmation from Penny you are not booked, so in that case please check with her.

Upcoming Events

The November Tasting is expected to be in a restaurant in Javea on Thursday November 18th with a bodega presentation.

The December Christmas Tasting will take place on the second Thursday of the month, December 9th at Restaurant Al Bordo, Club Nautico Javea.  This will be the President’s choice of wines.
