18th September Tasting – Restaurante La Senia – Denia

It is eight months since we were last at this restaurant and as on that occasion the format of this evening was slightly different from the usual bodega presentation.   This time 58 members and guests gathered to hear three past Presidents present “Past President’s Pairs”.   Current president Gordon Sellars introduced the three past Presidents; Keith Pacey, Rod Anderton and Gaby Ferenczy and explained that each had chosen a pair of wines which had one or more features in common which allowed for a comparative tasting.  

The first speaker was Keith Pacey and he had chosen two white wines from Alavesa a prestigious wine producing region of the DO La Rioja Calificada.   For his wines, Rod Anderton chose two reds from Calatayud, situated in the province of Zaragoza.  Finally Gaby Ferenczy presented two red wines from Utiel Requena, both 2012 and both made from the Bobal grape.  A full report on the evening’s tasting is on the society’s web page, www.costablancawinesociety.com under the heading of Tastings.

Autumn Wine Trip

The Autumn wine trip to DO Bullas takes place on the 21/22nd October.   The trip is fully booked with 32 members attending.   However a waiting list is open in case any should have to withdraw.   Full details of the trip are on the Society’s web page under Trips/Next Trip.

Next Tasting

The next tasting will take place on the 16th October at Restaurant Abiss in Calpe, when we will be tasting wines by Bodegas Mas Roig from DO Montsant.

The restaurant is part of the Sol y Mar hotel, although it has a separate entrance. There is plenty of parking in the underground (pay) car park or in the blue (pay) zone in the streets nearbyThe hotel is offering free parking in the underground car park for the duration of the dinner and for those staying overnight.  There are also free parking areas within a five or ten minute walk.

The cava reception will be served in the hotel´s champagne bar, La Champagneria – or ¨Le Champ¨ where the treasurer will be ready at 19.30 to collect your money and the place names and table draw will also be found.  La Champagneria is located close to the restaurant entrance, on the other side of the flight of steps to the beach.  See the website www.granhotelsolymar.com/eng/champagneria-solymar-calpe.php.

The hotel is offering a 20% discount on room rates for CBWS diners on the night of the 16th October only.

Please note that due to capacity limitations this is a member only event.

Price for members will be 32,50 Euros   This price includes the cost of the welcome drink in the Champagne Bar and free parking.   20% discount on room rate for CBWS members who wish to stay the night.

THE DOORS WILL OPEN AT 19.30.

This will allow the committee to arrange seating and tables.
