34 members attended the Christmas tasting at A Bordo restaurant at the Club Nautico Javea. Despite our reduced numbers we had a fun night, good wine and food served in a friendly and professional style.
The December meeting is traditionally informal and this year I choose to serve wines selected from those which we have tasted during the year. The proceedings were livened up with a blind tasting of each wine together with a mini quiz asking members to identify the wine, the DO and the average score that members awarded earlier in the year. A few helpful clues were given where needed! Everyone seemed to enjoy
this and it gave us some Christmas cheer as well!
During the course of the evening the Wine Taster of the Year was announced with 2nd and 3rd places. The winner was Gillian Ashworth, 2nd Place Keith Pacey, who was unable to attend the dinner, and 3rd place went to Helen Nicholls. Each person was presented with a quality bottle of wine and Keith will receive his prize at the January meeting.
The wines that were enjoyed over the evening were:
Catalan Eagle, La Bascula, tasted in May
Viñas del Vero Chardonnay, tasted in March
El Regajal, tasted in September
Martue Syrah, tasted in September
A selection of wines from January, February and October tastings
Blind tastings of these wines provided interesting discussions, and the table correctly guessing the average score was awarded a prize of a bottle of wine.
