    You are reminded that the AGM will be held on Thursday 18th January 2023. The original notice issued with the December newsletter is copied below. There is one amendment to the notice which is that nominations for the vacant positions can be made until 11th January (previously 4th January. Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Costa Blanca Wine Society will be held on Thursday, 18th January, 2024 in Restaurant La Senia, Hotel Nou Roma, Denia.  The first call will be at 6pm with the meeting starting at 6.30pm (this is the time for members to arrive and be seated).     Tasting Report December 2023

    Tasting Report December  2023 We did not receive the normal report for this event so it is published as supplied by Tim Fawle. Our December tasting is traditionally hosted by the President who has chosen the wines. We had 57 members due to attend this tasting but unfortunately several members were unable to participate due to illness issues. However, 49 members attended in a convivial and relaxed atmosphere at A Bordo Club Nautica, Javea There was no formal wine scoring and the wines selected were some that we had tasted before and some of the President’s favourites.  There was also an interesting wine activity that was hosted by Sandy Fawle throughout the…

    Tasting November 2023

    CBWS Tasting held on 16/11/23 at Los Amigos, Javea and attended by 58 members and guests President Tim welcomed members and guests to the tasing at a favourite restaurant. He introduced Kathy and Andrew Johnson, tasting team members and hosts for this event. He explained the importance of Spain in global wine production and said that the wines reflect the diversity of the great grape varieties of Spain Andrew explained that the wines for this tasting have been chosen withChristmas festivities in mind and in line with the advice of José Peñin, when he presented to the society.     Tasting October 2023

    CBWS Tasting held on October 19th 2023 at Bodegas Nodus, Caudete de las Fuentes in the Utiel Requena DO, attended by the maximum of 28 members.  This was a monthly Tasting Dinner with a difference!  We headed west of Valencia  Bodegas Nodus – a name familiar to most of us on many local restaurant wine lists. Our event was a ’Dinner, Bed and Breakfast’ House Party.  Adjacent to the winery is a heritage building, Finca El  Renegada, so named because the original owner and winemaker was ‘an outsider’. This is now Hotel Rural Entreviños, a typical Spanish country hotel that can sleep 28 people. The beautiful setting is amongst the vineyards, with…

    Newsletter November 2023

    Dear All, Welcome to the November Newsletter. Tasting Team members Neil Robertson and Vicki Wyatt organised a delightful tasting at Bodega Nodus in Utiel Requena. 28 members enjoyed a tour of the winery and tasting followed by dinner with more of their wines. The overnight accommodation in their on-site Hotel Rural Entreviñas provided a perfect setting for our October Tasting. Vicki and Neil worked very hard to ensure that this event was a success, with everyone leaving the bodega very cheerful the following day, many with several cases of wine purchases.     CBWS Tasting held on 21/09/2023 at Jesus Pobre Riurau and attended by 61 members and guests Theme: Can you taste the flavour of the grapes in the wine? A tasting of local wines and a meal of local, traditional products. Presented by Santi Signes,Tony Cabban, Rodolfo Valiente, Andreu Costa   Renaix la Passió, Moscatel D.O. Alicante, 2022 13% Bodegas Riko. €9 This wine is from Jalon, it is made a naturally as possible with native yeasts and does not spend any time in a barrel and it is not fermented on the lees.In the mouth, a fine and elegant wine, with a medium volume and long persistence with a pleasant bitter finish characteristic of Moscatel.     Trip Report October 2023

    Bookings open 10.00(CET) on Tuesday 1st August – you will not be able to book before this date. If you wish to book please click the link below or visit the events booking page on our website. This year’s Autumn Wine Trip will be to the neighbouring DO’s of Jumilla and Yecla in the Region of Murcia, famous for their fruity and full bodied Monastrell wines. Wine production has a long history in the area with records of vines being planted during the Phoenician period and later continued by the Romans.  Apart from wine production the area is noted for its agriculture, shoe making and furniture manufacturing.     Summer Newsletter July 2023

    Dear Members We concluded the first half of the year with an excellent tasting hosted by Andrew & Kathy Johnson at the delightful setting of Puerto Blanco in Calpe attended by 51 members and guests.  Their sommelier Alex presented some interesting wines which were paired with the food offering.  Many members have commented on what an excellent evening this was.  Our thanks go to Andrew & Kathy and of course Puerto Blanco Restaurant for a superb evening.  For the full tasting report please click here.
