Newsletter October 2025

Dear members

Believe it or not, we only have three more tasting events before the end of 2025. So make the most of your membership and attend as many of those events as possible, details of which are set out in this newsletter.

Since my last newsletter, we have enjoyed the highly successful  ‘Who do you think we are’? tasting at Costa Marco on 18 September, a report on which which can be found {here}. Those members who were successful in applying will also be looking forward to the wine trip in early October. Numbers for these wine trips are limited so keep looking out for details of next year’s May trip and book early. (Details should be available in in the next month or so)

During the month, we heard the sad news that Ron Watson, former CBWS membership secretary, had passed away at his home in Oslo. Our thoughts are with his wife Malla, their family and friends.

Our next tasting will be on October 16 at Les Rotes hotel in Denia. It will be hosted by Tony and Cherry Cabban who will introduce ‘Vinos de Pago’: a very special categorisation of some of the best wines of Spain. Sara and I will be unable to attend, so the event will be led by our Vice President, Helen Granville. If any one wishes to stay at the hotel, please mention Costa Blanca Wine Society and a limited number of discounted rooms are available.

Your welcome Cava will be available from 19.30, with dinner commencing at 20.00. A cash bar will be available for early arrivals. Numbers are limited to 72 at this event. The price for members is €45 and for guests €55. The menu for the event is as follows;

Sopa de Calabacin

Calamari a la plancha

Tataki de Vacuna sobre Parmentier trufado y salsa de setas

*****

Pescado del dia (Corvina)

Or

Presa Iberica sobre puree de zanahorias asados y esparragos a la llama

Or

Arroz vegetarian

****

Brownie de chocolate con helado de vainilla

Please book directly on {CBWS website} or via the link below. Booking is now open and will close at midday on 10 October after which no more bookings can be made and there will be no refunds for cancellations. If we have available spaces, pending members will be able to book places from 6 October.

The following three events will be;

     On 20 November at El Poblet in Denia, Neil and Vicki will be presenting ‘Tales of the Unexpected’. A fascinating and eclectic selection of wines from around the world, paired with an excellent menu at a new venue for CBWS. I assure you that you will taste very good wines from parts of the world that you didn’t even know produced wine!

     On 11 December at Javea Yacht Club it will be the President’s gala evening with my choice of favourite wines, some fun quizzes/games and perhaps even a gift for attendees. This is usually a highly popular event so initially will be offered to members only.

     On January 15 we will be holding our first tasting of 2025 at Les Rotes Hotel in Denia. It will also be our AGM at which we review the activities of 2025 and the plans for 2026 and I will be standing down and handing over my role to your new President.

Enjoy the coming month

Regards

Neville
