A South American wine tasting hosted by Gillian Ashworth and Hugh Epsom, and assisted by Tim Fawle. The wines included a great Chilean Carménére, an Argentinian Torrontés, and a couple of Malbecs, all from well-established Chilean and Argentinian bodegas from the Valle del Maule in Chile, and the Valle de Uco, Mendoza and Tupungato in Argentina.

Santa Digna Sauvignon Blanc 2021, Miguel Torres

An excellent Sauvignon Blanc from vines grown in the Valle del Maule in Chile. It exhibits a fresh pale gold color and a harmony of aromas reminiscent of ripe tropical fruits, on a background of apples and fennel. The palate is silky, with a good acid structure and a long finish.

Petite Fleur Torrontés 2021, Monteviejo

An unusual Torrontés from the Mendoza region in Argentina.

Bright, translucent yellow with a slightly greenish tinge. On the nose, floral notes and citrus fruits such as orange peel. On the palate, fresh and balanced. A fruity and elegant wine. Pale straw colour. Powerful nose of apricot & rose.

Domaine Bousquet Malbec Reserva 2020

Blend comprising 85% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot from the Uco Valley in Argentina.Domaine Bousquet’s premium varietal series comprises a blend of estate and purchased fruit from the Uco Valley. The grapes benefit from major diurnal temperature swings, achieving an exuberant ripeness.

Santa Digna Carménère 2020

A beautiful Carménère from the Valle del Maule region in Chile.

Cherry color with aromas of blackberry, and balsamic notes of eucalyptus, that culminate in a delicious hint of mandarin. The palate is elegant with sweet tannins that deliver nuances of leather and spice.

Luigi Bosca De Sangre Malbec 2019

A great Malbec from the Valle de Uco in Argentina with a well-defined fruity pro!le, sweet in the mouth, with the roundness characteristic of this variety. A red wine to be enjoyed in a wide range of occasions. Aged 12 months in barrels. Produced from vines in the upper area of the Mendoza Region.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Neville Richardson who commented that it was great to have a non-Spanish wine tasting for a change.
