Tasting Report April 2026

CBWS Tasting held on 16/04/2026 at The Club Nautico in Denia and attended by 73 members and guests. Tony Salter introduced the tasting format which was “My Favourite Wine”. Each of five presenters from the membership would present a wine and explain why they had chosen it. There would be a show of
hands at the end to decide which was the favourite wine of the audience. Tony then introduced each of the presenters as the wines were served.

100% Verdejo – 13.5%

Wine 1 DescriptionGro Salter presented this wine after talking about a few “favourite” wines she remembered and then saying how nice it was to have a generous glass of “Vino Blanco” anywhere in Spain which was very
often a Verdejo.

Wine 3 DescriptionRoelof Winter presented this wine which was one of his “house” wines. He and his wife love the Gewurztraminer grape which is hard to find in Spain and love the fact that this wine is dry – and very good value.

35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 31% Tempranillo – 14%

Wine 4 DescriptionPatrick Harrild presented this wine (which he also presented at his “Wine with Music” tasting some years and told the story about being invited to the vineyard because he was a musician and each parcel of vines was named after a composer.
Wine 5 Name and VintagePor Ti – Bodega Luzon – 2021

80% Monastrell / 20% Cabernet Sauvignon – 15%

Wine 5 DescriptionSylvie Cusden presented Por Ti talking about her memories of first tasting it on a wine trip and learning the story of how the wine maker made it to celebrate his daughter who he “never expected and would never deserve”. She also explained that the tear on the bottle would turn blue when the wine is at its ideal serving temperature of 18
degrees.

Tony brought the evening to a close by running a show of hands to decide the most popular wine. It was a close run thing between Por Ti, Pago de Otazu and The Ned, but Por Ti was the winner and Sylvie was presented with a bottle of Pago de Otazu as a prize.
