Newsletter April 2026

Dear Members,

Welcome to Spring, although Winter does seem to be clinging onto the weather. At the last tasting in February, we had the opportunity to buy the wines direct from the winery. Members spent 2300€, all the wines have arrived safely in Javea and have been collected from Tim Fawle. On 19 March we had an excellent presentation from Fergus & Joan Fitztpatrick on “Exploring Garnacha”. All the wines we tasted were 100% Garnacha, each wine from a different DO. The tasting report is available HERE.

Our next wine tasting is on 16 April at the Denia Yacht Club, when Tony & Gro Salter will host what promises to be a lively and entertaining evening titled “My Favourite Wine”, where five newer members will present their chosen wines. Each table will vote for their Best Presenter and Best Wine of the Evening, with surprises in store for the winners. It sounds like a fun evening! A welcome cava will be served at 19.30 with dinner at 20.00. The cost is €50 for members and €60 for guests. Please note there will be no bar available before the welcome cava at 19:30. If you are intending to parking in the Yacht Club car park, you they need to go downstairs to the restaurant to register your car number beforehand.

Looking ahead, our next tasting is on 21st May at Maxim’s in Moraira Sara & Neville Richardson will be presenting “What’s in a Label: how much does the packaging influence you?” Do you prefer a trendy label or an old-fashioned one? Find out on the night what attracts casual wine buyers the most.
On 18th June at La Senia, Denia, “What’s in a Bubble”, cava and sparkling wines in Spain. This was to be presented by Val Peachey, unfortunately has broken her hip and the presentation will be given by Helen Granville, ably helped by Mike Granville & Neville Richardson.

On 5 to 8 May 35 members will be going on our annual wine away trip, this time to the DO of Madrid. This trip is now fully subscribed.

Let’s hope Spring arrives soon.
