DO’S JUMILLA & YECLA

This year’s Autumn Wine Trip will be to the neighbouring DO’s of Jumilla and Yecla in the Region of Murcia, famous for their fruity and full bodied Monastrell wines. Wine production has a long history in the area with records of vines being planted during the Phoenician period and later continued by the Romans.  Apart from wine production the area is noted for its agriculture, shoe making and furniture manufacturing.

We will travel by coach, departing from Javea bus station, on Tuesday October 8 returning late afternoon/early evening the following day.

Our first visit will be to enjoy an Olive Oil Tasting at internationally renowned  Almazara Deortega in Yecla.

We will then visit Bodegas Castaño, DO Yecla. Bodegas Castaño is an old friend of the CBWS but as yet undiscovered by some of our newer members. This tasting will be accompanied by light tapas. https://www.bodegascastano.com/en/content/all-about-us/

We will than check into our centrally located Hotel Avenida in Yecla. https://www.hotelavenidayecla.com  This simple hotel offers comfortable rooms and a pleasant dining room and bar. The renowned Basilica de la Purisima Concepcion is just a short walk away as is the Archaeological Museum.  The narrow streets also hold a variety of shops, bars and leafy plazas.

The day will end with a welcome aperitivo in the hotel, followed by a dinner which will include local specialities and wines from the region.

Day 2 will commence with a relaxed breakfast in the hotel and, for those wanting to, there is the local street market outside the hotel to explore.

We then travel to Bodegas Delampa, DO Jumilla

https://delampa.es/en/comprar-vinos-de-jumilla This bodega has an excellent selection of very reasonably priced wines with good ratings in Penin and also has a well stocked shop selling cheeses, hams and many other local delicacies.

Finally, our last visit is to Bodegas Luzón, DO Jumilla https://www.bodegasluzon.com for a visit to their modern facilities followed by a tasting and lunch. This bodega is highly respected in the DO Jumilla and is very progressive with an interesting heritage.

Following lunch we will return to Javea.

The price depends a little bit on final numbers but, at this stage we expect the price to be around €220 per person sharing a double room and €230 in a single room. This price includes all the activities mentioned above including transport leaving from from and returning  to Javea bus station. (The cost also includes the expenses incurred by your wine trip team in visiting the area to plan the trip. The wine trip team each pay the same price as every other member to participate in the trip.)

Bookings are now open and you should email your request for a room to Sandy (sandyfawle@gmail.com). You should email promptly as numbers are limited to 34 people. Sandy will confirm if you have been successful in securing a room within 10 days.

We look forward to a great trip!

John, Shirley, Tim and Sandy
