Tasting June 2023

CBWS Tasting held on 15/06/2023 at Restaurante Puerto Blanco and attended by 52 members and guests

President Tim welcomed 52 members and guests and introduced Kathy and Andrew Johnson, members of the Tasting Team who organised the evening.

Andrew then thanked Chef Patron Patrick for the additional reception drink and explained that Patrick with Head Sommelier Alexander had produced a fabulous pairing menu for the night, with 5 wines, each partnering a gourmet dish.

Terrer de la Creu Brut Nature €5.95

The first wine was a cava, paired with a wonderful, rich Foie Gras Martini mousse.The wine is made of 3 typical grape varieties – Macabeo, Parellada and Xarello. A long aged Cava handmade using the traditional method. Cava Brut Nature fresh and very fruity. From the bodega Terrer de la Creu.

La Crique 2021 – a classic Provencal rosé €7.80

Made of 3 grape varieties: 50% Garnacha, % Cinsault, 30% Tibouren (Tibouren is a local name for Monastrell. Vines were taken to France during the Napoleonic wars). It is a pale pink wine, with notes of fresh fruit and flowers. It was served with a tasty Tuna Sashimi.

Vina Valera 2020 Blanco. €12.00

Served with a Steak Tartare, was Vina Valera 2020 Blanco, is a white wine of 100% Albillo Mayor variety. 3 months on the lees.  It has a straw yellow, clean and bright look. On the nose it is intense and expressive with floral aromas and mineral touches. On the palate there is a light acidity.

Cosme Palacio. 2017 Crianza!! €10.90

100% Viura grapes. With a look of straw yellow, clean and bright, the nose was intense and expressive with floral aromas and mineral touches. On the palate this wine was structured and light acid white. It is aged for 8 months in oak barrels.

Las Pisadas 2018 – Tinto €13.50

Las Pisadas 2018 is the first wine from La Carbonera, the new project of Bodegas Torres in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.  

From 25 to 50 year old Tempranillo vines planted in a variety of microclimates.

After the tasting Andrew thanked everyone for attending and for the respect shown to our presenter. He thanked Patrick and Alex for a super, and innovative evening. Tim wound up the evening by thanking Kathy and Andrew for arranging the event and for working with Patrick and Alex to ensure such a success. He then invited Tony Cabban to “trailer” the next event.
